PEMA Kenya invites tenders from reputable consulting firms for the provision of external audit services for the financial year 2018/2019.

The Need, Objectives and Scope of The Audit
The required service of external audit will be rendered at PEMA Kenya’s offices as situated in Nyali.

The objective is to audit the Financial report for the period 1^st June 2018- 31st May 2019 and to express an audit opinion according to ISA 800/805 on whether the financial report represent a true and fair view.

We collaborated with MSF to facilitate a medical outreach for members of the GSM community providing services such as STI testing and contraceptives, general screening and treatment, psychosocial support and hygiene hampers. These services were available to individuals who were not Pema Kenya members.

The year 2023 marks a huge land mark in the fight for equality by the LGBTQI+ community in Kenya given the ruling by the supreme court that allowed for groups that affiliated with the queer communities to stay legally registered. This announcement however brought forth strong opposers who chose to remain ignorant. The theme for this year’s pride is Peace and Love Revolution. Pema Kenya is intentional about empowering its members with knowledge on how to care for themselves as they navigate a community riddled with homophobia. Every human being has some deep-rooted potential that can be achieved only once the individual natures his sense of self-worth. Teaching our members to Prioritize their mental health allows for them to heal through their triggers and learn how to engage with Homophobic individuals and structures from a place of love, leading by examples in creating a society that is just and fair to all.

Essential Service Providers include Healthcare workers, Law Enforcers, Local administrators, Community Leaders, Religious Leaders etc. We engaged these different groups through Utu Baraza in the County of Mombasa. We have seen more acceptance and messages of inclusion from these dialogues.

The Parents & Friends of Lesbians And Gays [Queers] (PFLAGs) engagement resulted to mutual understanding between the GSM and families, reduced stigma and discrimination in their family settings, and the PFLAGS are now openly speaking about inclusivity and acceptance of the GSM not just within families but also in different other platforms and as well reaching out to other families and friends of the GSM community.

Hearts Set On Pilgrimage [HSOP] & Integrated Leadership Module [ILM] are methodologies tailored to assist the LGBTIQ community to reconcile their faith and sexuality. From these feedback, we can note that both the Christian and Muslim GSM's have resolved the internal conflict on faith and sexuality and have the capacity to engage faith leaders and other community leaders in dialogues that expands safe spaces for the GSM community and coexistence in the society.

THE TRANSFORMATIVE DIALOGUE CREW (Double TD Crew)

In this video, Imam Muhsin Hendricks highlights some aspects of Ubuntu/Ukhuwwa and the Bible / Quran that actually challenge us to rethink our perception towards GSM persons in our community. While there has been an emphasis on the community in Ubuntu/Ukhuwwa, Imam Muhsin critically thinks that the individual is not completely excluded. Similarly, at the heart of our revolutionary faiths and attested both in the Old, New Testaments and the Quran, is the charge to protect the vulnerable (Exodus:12:49, 22:21-22; Lk.4:18-22)(Quran: 4:75).

Ubuntu/Ukhuwwa is the idea that no one can be healthy when the community is sick. The concept teaches us that I am human only because you are human. If I undermine your humanity, I dehumanize myself (Yamamoto 1997:52). Allah is in service of the servant as long as the servant is in service of others - (Hadith Sunan At-Tirmidhi Book 46, Hadith 19).

Ubuntu/Ukhuwwa is the interdependence of persons for the exercise, development, and fulfilment of their potential to be both individuals and community (Battle (2009:2).
