THE RELIGIOUS DIALOGUE PARTNERS’ PROCESS

PEMA KENYA TO HOST THE RELIGIOUS DIALOGUE PARTNERS’ PROCESS

On 14-22 February 2019, PEMA KENYA in partnership with Global Interfaith Network and Compassion Centred Islam will host the Religious Dialogue Partners’ Process in the County of Mombasa. The forum seeks to build the capacity of the lesbian, gay bisexual, transgender and intersex persons to reconcile their gender and sexual identity to their religious beliefs; foster meaningful relationship between the religious leaders and key stakeholders through dialogue; and support advocacy of human rights for the gender and sexual minority community.

The dialogue forum is two pronged; the Christian dialogue forum and the Muslim dialogue forum which will draw 12 participants from the Muslim community and 15 participants from the Christian community including representation of the gender and sexual minorities from the coast region.

During the forum, PEMA Kenya will support dialogue between religious leaders, key partners and   gender and sexual minority persons whose capacity to engage with Religious Leaders has been strengthened. The dialogue partners will bridge the gap between the gender and sexual minorities and the religious Leaders by supporting dialogue and other advocacy initiatives.

By the end of the forum, PEMA Kenya expects to have ignited the gender and sexual minorities’ community to embrace their spirituality and further enjoy their freedom of worship. PEMA Kenya also seeks to create a platform upon which religious leaders, gender and sexual minorities and other stakeholders can work together as advocacy partners.
