Pema Kenya Commences Comprehensive Poultry Farming Gap Analysis Across the Coast Region
Pema Kenya, in partnership with MEDA, has commenced a five-day Poultry Farming Gap Analysis aimed at strengthening poultry enterprises among members in Mombasa, Kilifi, and Kwale counties. The assessment, which began on yesterday, 26th January 2026 and runs through Friday, 30th January 2026, targets both active poultry farmers and members aspiring to venture into poultry production.
This exercise forms a core component of the MEDA project, which seeks to enhance economic resilience, inclusivity, and meaningful market participation for GSM persons through sustainable livelihood development. Poultry farming remains a high-potential enterprise for Pema Kenya members, driven by its relatively low entry costs, short production cycles, scalability, and strong local market demand. The ongoing gap analysis is designed to generate evidence-based insights that will inform targeted interventions and long-term support strategies within the poultry value chain.
The assessment is examining critical dimensions of poultry production, including access to technical training, innovative farm inputs, market linkages, and financial services. It is also evaluating enterprise management capacities, exposure to climate-related risks, and the structural or social barriers that GSM persons may face within the agricultural sector. Data is being collected through field interviews, focus group discussions, and site assessments to ensure that findings are grounded in the lived realities of members.
Field engagements are currently underway across the three counties to ensure comprehensive geographic coverage and a nuanced understanding of local production contexts. The findings will directly inform future investments under the MEDA project, including poultry 1.0.1 training, business development support, mentorship initiatives, and strengthened linkages to markets and financial institutions.
Pema Kenya is actively engaging eligible members throughout the Coast region, emphasizing that their participation and insights are critical to shaping responsive, inclusive, and impactful programming. This gap analysis represents a significant step in Pema Kenya’s ongoing commitment to advancing economic empowerment, promoting inclusive growth, and expanding sustainable livelihood opportunities for GSM persons across the region.
